What we collect
Contractor License Check is designed to need as little information from you as possible. We collect the following:
- Email address — only when you voluntarily submit one to join a state waitlist or sign up for a contractor license renewal alert.
- Analytics events — anonymized usage data (pages visited, clicks, search queries) via PostHog and Vercel Analytics. No personal identifiers are attached to these events.
- Server logs — standard request metadata (IP address, user agent, timestamp) retained by our hosting provider (Vercel) for operational and security purposes.
The contractor license records shown on this site come from official state licensing board public data. Those records are published by the state boards themselves and are not collected from you.
How we use it
- Waitlist emails are used only to notify you when your state's contractor data becomes searchable on this site. We do not send other marketing from waitlist signups.
- Renewal alert emails are used to send you a reminder before the licenses you track are set to expire.
- Analytics help us understand which pages and features are useful so we can improve the site.
- Logs are used to debug errors and protect the site from abuse.
We do not sell your email address or any other data. We do not share data with advertisers.
Who we share it with
To run this site we rely on a small number of service providers. Each has its own privacy policy.
- Vercel — hosting and request logs.
- Neon — database storage for waitlist and renewal-alert emails.
- Resend — transactional email delivery for confirmations and alerts.
- PostHog — product analytics.
- Google Analytics — aggregate traffic measurement.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies for analytics and to remember user preferences. No advertising or tracking cookies from third parties are set by this site.
Your choices
- Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes your email address from the relevant list.
- If you'd like us to delete any data associated with your email address, use the contact form on the About page and we will handle it.
- You can block analytics cookies in your browser settings without affecting the core functionality of the site.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If we materially change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date at the top.
