The numbers across all three jurisdictions:
- ~450,000 building permits matched to contractor license records
- ~46,000 contractors with at least one permit on file
- 3 metro areas — Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego County
Data comes from the SF and San Diego County open data portals, matched to CSLB license numbers the same way we handle LA City permits.
What this means for searches
If you look up a contractor who’s pulled permits in any of these three areas, you’ll see their permit history directly on their license page — permit types, addresses, valuations, and status. No extra clicks or separate searches.
Three largest metros covered
LA, SF, and San Diego are California’s three largest metro areas by population. Having permit data across all three gives meaningful coverage for the majority of California construction activity.
